Are ERAS and the Match the same?

No. ERAS is AAMC's application service; this article covers the Main Residency Match, run by NRMP. Participation in that process requires registration with the application service designated by the program and with NRMP. Registering with one does not replace the other. Research each program

Create a record containing the official name, specialty, application service, published requirements and contact for questions. Add the date you checked the page. Treat information found only in a messaging group as a question to verify, rather than an established program rule.

Compare three programs before expanding your list. Write down what interests you about each one and what you still need to learn. This makes your research more deliberate than selecting programs solely by reputation or location.

Build an action-based calendar

• Distinguish system opening, submission and rank order list certification deadlines.
• Record the time zone used in each communication.
• Set an internal buffer for third-party documents.
• Keep confirmation of every completed task.

An internal buffer is your planning choice, not an extension of an official deadline.

Does submission guarantee an interview?

Do not combine submission, interview and outcome into one milestone. Track them separately. Give your program list written selection criteria and a compatible budget. If research reveals a requirement you do not yet meet, clarify your position before paying to submit an application.
